History
St. Mary's School in Campbellford is part of the parish named Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was Mary's 'yes' to God that prompted her to visit Elizabeth. Herein we find Mary's canticle in the gospel of Luke. "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my savior.." (Lk. 1:46ff).
It is in Mary's canticle we celebrate the joys when, like her, we trust in God. Mary reminds us that trust encourages us to remember God's saving works throughout history. She also encourages us to appreciate the lives of our ancestors who have created so many possibilities and opportunities for us today. In Mary's magnificence we are reminded that God's saving work is evident in the needy, the lowly and the humble of heart.
It is in Mary's Visitation to Elizabeth that our parents, students and teachers are called to be minister of the Gospel in the ways we attend to the hungry, the lowly and the disadvantaged. As ambassadors of the Gospel our work of cultivating the Spirit of God with one another necessitates works of love and charity guided with a vigilant prayer life; then personal, family and community life can truly proclaim the greatness of the Lord.
This school's name honours the prominent place of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in our Catholic faith. The school was founded in 1920 and was built in 1921 has been located at its current site since.
